N.R.A. and Illiteracy
It appears that the leadership of the National Rifle Association is incapable of reading a complete sentence, such as the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
How come the N.R.A. seems only to be able to read only the last half of the above sentence and simply ignores the plain intent of those who drafted the amendment, in an era of muskets and primitive rifles, in the first half? What does “well regulated” mean? And why doesn’t the N.R.A. understand the requirement of regulation expressed in that amendment?
I’m Peter Dekom, and our schools seem to have produced another generation of students who cannot read.
