GOP November 4th Election Fail – Is Autocracy Fading or, Red Alert, Rising in Reaction?

Although it is a single city election, New York City turned its back on Trump’s threats of funding cuts and his endorsement for the maåyoral election… and elected a self-declared democratic immigrant socialist, a Muslim, as the mayor of the largest city in the nation, one with the largest Jewish population, the headquarters of the corporate antithesis to socialism and a DEI mix like no other city in the United States.

To Democrats, was the message to purge their boring elders to be replaced by younger dynamos? Or that obsessing about socialism and communism is an obsolete vestige of the post-WWII fear that the “duck and cover,” domino theories that have long since been replaced with an entirely different set of global challenges? But you know that the MAGA GOP will do everything in its power to paint Zohran Mamdani as the new face of the Democratic Party. Will voters buy that?

At every level, an out-of-touch ideolog, engaging the military as his personal strike force at home and abroad, with the sustained support of only one core demographic (the roughly 30% of the population: MAGA Christian nationalists), betrayed both the majority of his remaining, non-billionaire, voters and virtually the rest of America. On kitchen table issues, Trump gets an F with America’s majority. Tariffs are consumer taxes that have been one of the major components of the rising costs of just about everything.

The resulting consumer demand has contracted, as the cost of underlying essentials for other industries soared and as government is hell-bent on inane cost-savings (firing federal employees by the hundreds of thousands) to fund the trillion-dollar tax cut for the rich… is the GOP’s new “new.”. The job market has tanked. By way of example, as every American metal worker in steel and aluminum whose job may have been saved, 75 other workers whose jobs depend on reasonable steel and aluminum raw materials have lost their employment.

Likewise, Americans have been in shock watching a cruel and obviously inhumane pursuit of undocumented immigrants (hardly the focus on major criminals as promised), warrantless arrests by anonymous masked “officers,” beatings and tear gassings of peaceful protestors, inhumane detention facilities, productive workers ripped from their most necessary jobs (many of which no citizen is willing to do), small businesses saddled with most of the resulting pain and even childcare vaporizing as women retreat from the jobs to care for their children. Food lies rotting in the fields, meat processing plants are increasingly empty, construction sites are often empty, and all the parallel costs associated with the underlying work are rising fast.

The shutdown, largely blamed on Republicans, saw SNAP food support for 42 million vaporize, and even when a court order reversed the government’s false narrative that they were powerless to reverse this agenda, the program was delayed and reduced by half. As Americans began to receive notices of the increased costs of their healthcare premiums, many by well over 100%, the increases could be directly traced to the ugly GOP “Big Beautiful Bill,” reconfigured to make the rich much richer and the rest of us destined to pay for those tax cuts… they wailed and freaked. And as only red states have received FEMA disaster relief of late, the echo of “climate change as a hoax” reverberates. “Drill baby, drill” fell on deaf ears, even among Texas oil billionaires. Oil is yesterday’s news. Oh, and the US’ manufacturing sector is less than 10% of our labor force.

Except for a vote in California, where Trump has less power than my extraordinary kitty, the November 4th elections did not have much impact on the configuration of Congress. But MAGA is getting ready for the 2026 midterms and 2028 main elections, with tons of Supreme Court support. Gerrymandering, purging voter rolls of likely Democratic voters, making voting stations difficult to access for those living in minority neighborhoods are the first wave of election control.

The back-up plan ranges from preparing a conveniently stationed federal military in Democratic strongholds to seize ballots and voting machines upon the presidential order to do so… to rightwing groups engaging cadres of lawyers to challenge election results upon command… and smiling as reconfigured election officials and state legislatures prepare to reject election results they do not like. While Trump toys with a third term, the likelihood of that event is fading fast. Not only is Trump admitting that unlikely event, but his waning popularity suggests that retaining control is not going to be based on valid election results.

“Georgia, Texas, North Carolina and 11 other GOP-controlled states passed restrictive new election administration and voter eligibility laws after the 2020 election, making it harder for Democratic-leaning communities to access the ballot. In some places, the laws also empowered conservatives to take control of local and state election boards. There are now over 100 Big Lie proponents serving on election boards across eight swing states, giving them outsized power to refuse to certify vote counts and make antidemocratic last minute decisions.” Jordan Zakarin, writing for the November 4th The Gander.

In the end, so much depends on the integrity of the Supreme Court and the GOP members of Congress. Will Trump’s inert congressional MAGA ventriloquist dummies, like Speaker Mike “Parrot breath” Johnson, and his “we wrote Project 2025” crash-test-dummies in senior advisory roles within the administration, continue to ignore Trump’s elitists, oligarch-loving “donors,” and let go of their toxic and very unpopular Trumpy allegiance or simply step aside and let the autocracy officially take over. If they do allow fair elections, when will this loyal band of “whatever Trump wants” congressional GOP body learn that Trump’s coattails are ripping off of his tailored, extra, extra-large suits? MRI anyone? And where are those Epstein papers?

I’m Peter Dekom, and the strong hints of Trump’s failed agenda either move our elected representatives to bail on the Trump bandwagon as the wheels come off… or simply get out of the way as the King officially takes his throne.
